What’s a Free Methodist?

Mapleview is a “Free Methodist” church, part of the national denomination Free Methodist Church, USA. Free-Methodism arose in the 1860s as a more-conservative offshoot of the Methodist church. Founded as anti-slavery, the church even today maintains a strong position on human rights. Thus while considered more conservative (we hold an uncompromising belief in the authority of the Bible) the Free Methodist church—and Mapleview—is progressive when involved in our community and the world; we take seriously Christ’s call to “love your neighbor.” Another aspect of “freedom” which our church’s founders advocated has led to a freer, less-ceremonial worship style which is similar to the modern contemporary-church format.
